The Department of Conservation (DOC) is charged with conserving New Zealand’s natural and historic heritage.

Check the website first for information on marine reserves, pest-free islands, access to offshore islands, and permit requirements for wildlife or marine mammal items.

We would particularly like to raise awareness about CITES – the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species – to ensure you are aware when you may be required to obtain permits to move flora and fauna, and items made from them, across borders.  For specific enquiries email cites@doc.govt.nz
