I’m 39 and grew up (and still live) in the Bay of Islands. I'm looking for an opportunity to build more offshore sailing experience as I work towards my own bluewater cruising plans over the next few years. NZ to anywhere in the South Pacific and I'm flexible with availability.
Experience: I’ve been boating most of my life and I've owned a Davidson 28 for the past 5 years and sailed it extensively around the Bay of Islands, Cavalli Islands, Whangaroa and surrounding areas. During that time I handled all maintenance and troubleshooting myself — diesel engine servicing, 12V electrical, refrigeration, fibreglass work, painting, etc. I’ve also spent time crewing on a range of 25–45ft yachts owned by friends and done a bit of casual yacht racing. Earlier on, I spent two years working offshore as a hydrographic surveyor in Bass Strait and off north-western Australia on survey and construction vessels with trips of up to six weeks at sea.
I’m very comfortable at sea and I've experienced some very intense conditions offshore. I’m fit, tidy, organised, and I don't get seasick
I’m a keen fisherman and spearfisherman, advanced scuba & freediver, a solid cook, and happy to get stuck into whatever’s needed — watchkeeping, cleaning, cooking, maintenance, and hopefully providing a few fish for the table.
If you’re looking for a keen and reliable crew member, I’d love to have a chat.
Cheers,
Chris
